2013 has been a really amazing year for me. It is so amazing that even the word ‘amazing’ sounds too puny and insufficient for such a blessed year. I think crazy good is a more fitting description. There isn’t any competition really between this year … Continue reading Merci 2013, On y va 2014!
Lines. Straight, bent, crooked, curved. Alone, they often do not really hold any real significance. But when lines are stretched, bunched together, weaved, inter-laced, crossed, and/or cut, they suddenly create a new pattern, effectively creating a new life of its own. Very much like humans.
“My soul is full of longing for the secret of the sea, and the heart of the great ocean sends a thrilling pulse through me.” ― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ——– Just imagine an afternoon spent immersed in a book under a tree with that view. That … Continue reading The Sea
Carefree. I would hazard a guess that for this photo challenge, I will be seeing some jump shots, vacation pictures and lots of childhood snapshots. What these scenarios have in common is that feeling of freedom from worry and the opportunity to just be. But … Continue reading Carefree Moments
You can find them in a theater, a street wall, on a really old church scaffold. They can be a building, or an entire city. Some made by man, and all that is Nature. Some of them can move you to tears. Some will inspire you to dream. Some you won’t … Continue reading Masterpiece for Me
Have you ever seen a sunset, Gently kiss the sea? Well, that’s a little like lovin’ Yeah, yeah it’s true. Well it’s a little like Love, love, love, A little lovin’ you. ~The Cascades —————————————————————————- I think this line from The Cascade’s song is very … Continue reading A Little Like Lovin’
No. The picture does not scream surprise. But for me it does. For any special occasion, may it be for birthdays, graduations and Christmases, books have always been one of those things on top of my wish list. It’s something I want but rarely get … Continue reading Surprise!: A WordPress Photo Challenge
With my pets all grown up, I can’t imagine that they were so fragile and delicate once. Seeing my cat all bruised and battered from a street brawl after sneaking past our guard can be both frustrating and worrisome. Five years ago, my lovely dog, … Continue reading Delicate: A Weekly Photo Challenge
That’s my friend hugging a tree. Yes, she really love trees 😀
A typical work day would start and end here. At the train station. Trains mean different things for people from different parts of the world. Thinking about trains in Japan would make me think of something fast and ultra modern. Trains in Europe makes me … Continue reading Daily Ride: A Weekly Photo Challenge
Kittens in a box.
I know this picture is not something you immediately associate with free spirits but allow me to explain.
On this exhibit, we see kittens on a box. Scrambling to get out, whining, mewing and possibly, plotting against humanity. Perhaps I’m putting too much meaning onto this. Maybe they are just plain hungry and I’m only just a cat-crazy person with nothing better to do than to psycho-analyze my feline friends.
I’ve had dogs as well. Put a bunch of puppies in a box and you’ll probably die of cuteness within seconds. Some of them may be content to stay there and sleep while some might even try to get out. They will not bark or whine. Rather, they will use their cuddly charm to get their way.
Kittens can only look at them with disdain and disgust. Regardless of the physical limitation set upon to these tiny creature, you will see their clear resolve.
“You can put our bodies in a box, but never our soul!”, they seem to say. Rarely would I see a cat who is comfortably staying in a constrained and highly controlled environment They seem to thrive well in places that are difficult to reach; on top of a ledge, on a window sill etc. I don’t think it’s a quest for comfort or complacency. I feel that they are only seeking to be free. An opportunity to just BE.
Yes, I know my interpretation of several hours of mewing may sound too complicated for such diminutive creatures. But having spent more that a decade of living with them, nothing is too complex for a cat.
Just like what the Coldplay song said, ” Nobody said it was easy”
This has been a really stressful week for me and my classmates because of the number of workload and exams given this week. But I guess we must all find encouragements from wherever we can find.
I took this photo from our rooftop. Not exactly a picturesque view but the flying birds kinda inspires me. That Harvard speech by JK Rowling gave never fails to provide me with encouraging thoughts.
It may not always be easy, but it’s far from impossible.
